To commemorate Alfa Romeo’s success in the historic Mille Miglia race (held from 1927 to 1957) the Italian manufacturer will build 11 examples of the special “Spider Mille Miglia” in celebration of the 11 victories achieved in the Italian countryside.

The Mini Cooper S Clubman has been criticized for its doubtful place in the market due to it only being marginally more spacious than its smaller Cooper sibling and heady asking price. Nonetheless AC Schnitzer has upped the ante on “the other Mini” to dispel any doubts as to its sporting capability compared with its smaller sibling.

The Mini John Cooper Works and the Mini John Cooper Works Clubman that were unveiled at the Geneva Motor Show earlier this year will be available in South Africa from August 2008, while the Clubman version will arrive here in March 2009.

The motorsport world as we know it, is very much dominated by men. We see it everywhere from F1, to NASCAR, to WRC, and even in our local races. So, it’s always great to see when the ladies are making an impact on this male-dominated industry. One such local lady is Ntombikayise Masilela, a 32-year-old System Administrator.

Volkswagen is extending its Caddy range with the introduction of the Caddy Maxi Life and Caddy Maxi Panel Van to the line-up. The Caddy Maxi Life is an extended version of the standard Caddy Life currently on offer in South Africa, while the Panel Van is the longer version of the standard Caddy Panel Van.

Mercedes new E-class, due to go on show at the 2009 Geneva Motor Show, is slowly slipping more and more out of its disguise. The E-class won’t be anything radical in terms of looks, but will impress more with what lies under the bonnet.

When Kia’s Soul concepts showed up at the 2008 Geneva Motor show, the last thing we expected was for it to go into production. But, according to various reports, a production model of this vehicle will go on show at the Paris Motor Show in October and will hit international markets early in 2009.

Carlsson Autotechnik GmbH, renowned tuner of Mercedes-Benz automobiles, has had a shot at the latest incarnation of the SL 500, the three-star manufacturer’s premium offering in the high-end roadster segment, and transformed it into the CK50.

Ferrari has finally granted us a proper look at its eagerly awaited GT California, along with some much sought-after engine specs, ahead of the car’s Paris Motor Show unveiling.

Ferrari has officially set the wheels in motion for the upcoming launch of its entry-level 2+2 model…without the Dino nomenclature.

When the Bugatti Veyron was still speed king, there were many who promised to oust the Veyron’s 407 km/h production car speed record. Few have tried, fewer have come close to succeeding and even fewer will ever hit the mark while the Veyron is still relevant in speed talk. Well, the 9ff GT9 has just joined that elite number

For the 2008/2009 season, A1 Grand Prix vehicles will be powered by Ferrari. This stems from a deal that Ferrari made with the A1 GP in October last year to supply the tournament with powerplants and other consultation resources. The agreement is said to last until 2014.

BMW has claimed six awards for five engines at this year’s “International Engine of the Year Awards”, including a successive Engine of the Year title for the 225 kW twin-turbo 3,0-litre six cylinder and “Best New Engine of the Year” for the 150 kW twin turbo four-cylinder diesel powerplants.

Volkswagen of South Africa Managing Director David Powels has announced that VW has gained new export programmes that will boost export numbers to unprecedented volumes in 2008.

Its no secret that German tuning giant Hamann specializes in customizing BMWs and more exotic material like Porsches, Ferraris and Lamborghinis. So it comes as a surprise that the latest in a long line of vehicles to leave the Laupheim-based tuner’s gates is Fiat’s 500.

With immediate effect, Formula 1 team Super Aguri has withdrawn from this year’s Championship and from Formula 1 altogether. The team has participated in 39 Formula 1 grand prix races, obtained a total of four world championship points, and finished ninth in the constructors championship last year.

It was just a few weeks ago that Audi revealed its new Q5 in Beijing. Less than a month later, the Ingolstadt manufacturer has released pictures of the S Line version of its baby SUV.

The hype started with the Iroc concept two years ago, then came outings in the deserts of America. Add to that a few leaked images just before the final product debut, and VW finally unveiled the production version of the Scirocco at the Geneva Motor Show earlier this year. Now Wolfsburg is setting the sports-coupe on the Green Hell again …in race trim.

The Tata Indica Bounce first… er… bounced onto our shores in the second half of 2007. Only 200 vehicles were available at that time. Now, claiming that it’s due to popular demand, Tata has slipped 50 more Indica Bounce vehicles into South Africa.

After season mostly spent at the top of the standings, and an especially dominating latter half, it’s no surprise that Team Switzerland emerges as champion after the final round of the A1GP World Cup of Motorsport 2007/2008 season, held at Brands Hatch in England.

The Toyota iQ microcar is set to spawn a number of larger new models, including an SUV.

Since the SSC Ultimate Aero broke the Bugatti Veyron’s unofficial record for being the fastest production hypercar in existence late last year, not a single manufacturer has claimed to be able to better the SSC’s 411 km/h top speed, until now. The Weber F1 may claim to be fast, but easy on the eyes? No.
