Smear, Streaks, Judder
Switch on wipers. The wiper blades should travel evenly and reverse smoothly. Check for cleaning efficiency.
Check for wear
Worn edges on the blade rubbers will mean that wipers cannot clear away moisture, dirt and traffic film.
Check for ageing
Tired and lifeless rubber in the wiper blades will smear the screen.
Check for Layover
Excessive layover will cause a poor wipe because the blade is not held at the correct angle to the screen.
Check for Twisting
If wiper judders, stop mid-way through stroke. With blade removed, check that arm end lies flat against screen.
Splitting
cause: Rubber is aged and worn.
Permanent Set
Rubber is aged and will no longer strope.
