APPOINTMENTS AND RESIGNATIONS

MIDAS MD AUTOMOBIL'S PERSON OF THE YEAR
Gordon Odgers,
managing director of Midas, is Automobil's Person of the Year for 2007.
Odgers was recently instrumental in negotiating with General Motors SA to take a majority stake in Midas, the deal bringing the South African subsidiary of America's biggest vehicle manufacturer a 50,1 per cent share in the automotive parts, accessories and value-added services conglomerate.

Four national franchise chains - Midas Parts Centres, Motolek, Adco and CBS - form a network of about 320 retail outlets, workshops and fitment centres, enabling the group to satisfy key needs of the vehicle parc throughout the Southern Africa region.

Midas also provides the commercial vehicle sector with a national network of value-added technical centres, primarily through its Adco, Motolek and CBS franchises.
Presenting the Person of the Year award, Jeff Osborne, CEO of the RMI, paid tribute to Odgers as a man of entrepreneurial vision, skill and drive who had extended on the global automotive stage the influence of a leading South African company.
